Cap d’Antibes and Plage de la Garoupe

Stylishly sandwiched between Antibes and Juan les Pins, the promontory of Cap d’Antibes projects into the Mediterranean like a very expensive jewel-adorned finger of unique and unquestionable luxury, exuding wealth, finesse and joie de vie. Although the Cap d’Antibes is renowned for for its legendary gems, such as the Hotel du Cap-Eden-Roc, the Villa Eilenroc, and the Phare de la Garoupe, it is the splendid curve of secluded white sand, and its superb private beaches, that make it particularly special: this is Plage de la Garoupe.

It is often said that sunbathing on the Côte d’Azur as we know it was born here on the Cap d’Antibes. In the 1920’s, the power couple, Gerald and Sarah Murphy, introduced their glamorous friends, such as F. Scott Fitzgerald, to the concept of soaking up the rays at La Garoupe.

Whilst the rest of the Cap d’Antibes peninsula is rocky and heavily indented, this sparkling bay gracing the eastern side of the peninsula, is a paradise for sun-worshippers and gourmets alike. It is therefore hardly surprising that it is in this secluded bay at La Garoupe that many luxury charter yachts decide to drop anchor! Some of the best food in the region is just a tender away!

Plage Keller beach on Cap d'Antibes, France

Plage Keller

Plage Keller is one of the best beaches ‘along the strip’ of La Garoupe, with its unmistakeable sunflower yellow matelas and parasols, contrasting with the turquoise blue of a very clear sea. Plage Keller is also home to the superb Restaurant César, perched just one level above the sand. This is where chef Olivier Condat, weaves his culinary magic, using the very finest local hand picked ingredients. As with any renowned chef, dishes will change, but two of his signature dishes are Côte de Bœuf Individuelle «Black Angus Premium» (600gm) avec sauce aux morilles, and Aile de Raie à la plancha, petits légumes croquants et vinaigrette aux fruits de la passion.

Hôtel Impérial Garoupe in Cap d'Antibes, France

Hôtel Impérial Garoupe

For an equally unforgettable gastronomic beach experience on the Cap d’Antibes there is Le Pavillon Beach, directly accessible from the Hôtel Impérial Garoupe. Le Gaspacho «Andalou» is exceptional, as are all the fish dishes : Le Fritto Misto and Grosses Gambas rôtie au romarin are two dishes not to be missed.

Maybe after all this indulgence, and once the sun has gone down, it is time for a stroll to the La Garoupe lighthouse. The panoramic views over the Cap d’Antibes are astounding and it is one of the most powerful lighthouses on the Mediterranean coastline: there are two successive white flashes every 10 seconds.
