The Principality of Monaco welcomes a totally new breed of racing car this coming Saturday 9 May with the first ever Monaco ePrix! Monaco has of course long been associated with motorsport at the highest level, having hosted the legendary Monaco F1 Grand Prix on the streets of the Principality since 1929. Twenty lucky drivers will now have the opportunity to race their all electric racing cars around a slightly shortened version of the famous Monaco F1 circuit. The Monaco ePrix is part of the FIA Formula E World Championship that started last September and has already brought this exciting new brand of motor racing to the likes of Buenos Aires, Beijing and Miami!

Formula E is the world’s first all electric racing series and aims to bring the potential of fully electric powered cars to the forefront of motorsport. These incredible cars are no slouches either, capable of speeds in excess of 220kmh! Electric power has played a role in Formula 1 cars for while and perhaps it is only a matter of time before the most important series in motor racing turns to fully electric cars. In the meantime, Formula E promises to show how exhilirating the performance of an all electric car can be!

The Formula E cars will race around a modified version of the F1 circuit, focused on the Port of Monaco, and including the infamous Swimming Pool, Rascasse, Sainte Devote and Tabac Corner. It promises to be a very exciting event!

The 2015 Monaco ePrix takes place on Saturday 9 May.
